The first sitting for Kalervo's portrait went very well. I haven't had to draw a moving target in a while, and I worried that I wouldn't get anything legible on the canvas, but the conversation kept the situation fluid and relaxed. Kalervo brought his bearded collie, Pippuri (Pepper), with him and she behaved very politely sitting next to his chair in the studio. I usually use photographs for reference material while the model is unavailable, but Kalervo warmly encouraged me to come up with a portrait just through our sessions together, our conversation and my imagination. It will be an interesting process, and a refreshing challenge.
